This course surveys the evidence relating to Celtic religion and mythology, including the druidic priest class, gods, cults, and beliefs -- especially the mythological tradition. The survey covers both continental and insular Celtic peoples between 500 BC and the Middle Ages, and draws evidence from the archaeological record, the writings of Greek and Roman commentators, and, most especially, the traditional narratives of the early Irish and Welsh themselves.
